Melquias Olivio never planned to be a pastor. Born in São Paulo, Brazil, he grew up watching his parents live a faith that required sacrifice. They planted churches, started an orphanage, and eventually moved the family to the United States as missionaries. Melquias admired their obedience. But he wanted his own path.

He pursued law enforcement with discipline and determination, earning a degree in criminal justice and eventually wearing the badge of a Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy. For fifteen and a half years, he served with integrity. He had arrived exactly where he wanted to be. Then God spoke. Not in a dramatic vision. In a quiet jail dorm at 5 AM.

What followed was years of wrestling, delaying, and finally surrendering. In March of 2024, Melquias shook his Sheriff’s hand for the last time and walked into full-time pastoral ministry. He is the planter and founding pastor of Essence Church in Cape Coral, Florida, and serves as Regional Superintendent of the Free Methodist Church’s Southeast Region Conference. He is also an Evangelism Trainer for ShareWorld Global Organization.

He is married to Kelcia, and together they have two children, Lucas and Melissa. His brother Myller, who went home to the Lord in March of 2023, remains a foundation in his walk with God.
